Services at the Ryan Center

Appointments:

Patients or referring providers should call the Ryan Center, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at (773) 834-9995.

Preparing for Your Visit

The Ryan Center is located in the Center for Advanced Medicine on the University of Chicago Hospital campus. The address is 5758 S. Maryland Ave. The clinic is on the third floor in unit 3H. When you check in at 3H, let them know that you are there to see the Ryan Center.
What to Bring:

  • Your ID card
  • Medical card or insurance card
  • Fee or co-pay. You will be informed about the fees when you make your appointment
  • The Ryan Center accepts cash or money orders ONLY.

Things to Remember:

  • We don’t allow small children or babies to accompany you to your appointment. Please arrange for childcare.
  • Parking can be very difficult, so please allow plenty of time to park. If you are more than 30 minutes late, the clinic will not be able to see you
  • You MUST have a ride home after your appointment. The clinic staff will not let you leave unless you have a ride home. (For termination patients only)
  • Please remember to call the Ryan Center at 773-834-9995 if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

Termination Services

The Ryan Center is the clinical component for the Section of Family Planning & Contraceptive Research. Here we offer safe, confidential and comprehensive care for women who seek elective termination of pregnancy and those who desire termination due to missed miscarriage. Services include:

  • Medical termination of pregnancy up to 9 weeks gestation
  • Surgical termination of pregnancy up to 22 weeks gestation with two sedation alternatives
  • Treatment of missed miscarriage up to 14 weeks gestation
  • Pre and post procedure counseling
  • Contraceptive counseling, particularly for high risk patients
  • Contraceptive services for medically complicated patients
  • Emergency contraception
  • Sterilization

Patients or referring providers should call the Ryan Center, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at 773-834-9995. Services are provided Monday thru Friday for missed or spontaneous abortions and on Monday thru Thursday for elective terminations.

Complex Contraceptive Clinic

In addition to abortion services the Ryan Center also holds a contraceptive clinic with a particular emphasis on patients with medical problems or those seeking sterilization.

Services Include:

  • Contraceptive counseling for medically complicated patients
  • Comprehensive contraceptive counseling and education
  • IUD insertion and removal
  • Pre-sterilization counseling
  • Norplant removal
  • Diaphragm fitting
  • Emergency contraception*  EC fact sheet
  • Essure placement in an outpatient setting (coming soon)
